Silvia Ferrer, meteorology expert: "DANA will arrive on Sunday; models disagree on its impact on Spain."

The intense heat that has plagued much of Spain this summer appears to have partially eased in some parts of the country, with a slight drop in temperatures due to a pocket of cold air. This will gradually disappear over the Mediterranean , giving way to a DANA (High Temperature Depression) that will appear this coming Sunday.

This is what meteorology expert Silvia Ferrer emphasized for El Tiempo.com, in light of the arrival of this meteorological phenomenon characterized by its frigid air at its core , in contrast to the warmer air surrounding it, and its cyclonic winds. While many might expect heavy rainfall, it does n't necessarily occur under these circumstances.

"The weekend will be marked by the descent of a DANA over mainland Spain, which could bring intense storms to several regions. Meteorological models continue to differ on its effects," the expert stated in the media . There is a certain contradiction between the European and American forecasts , which can change over the course of the hours.

Contrasting predictions

In this regard, Ferrer predicts high clouds and fog will begin the day in regions such as Galicia , as well as the Cantabrian Sea, the upper Ebro, and the Eastern Mediterranean . The southeastern interior and western Andalusia will also experience such weather, with cloud cover gradually moving eastward. During this time, precipitation may occur in the northern third, along with thunderstorms in the afternoon.

"Although we're talking about short-term forecasts, there is still considerable uncertainty regarding the trajectory and intensity of the DANA, or cold drop. There are models, such as the American one , that predict a significant episode of strong storms in the east and the Balearic Islands between Sunday and Monday, while the European one has lowered the expected precipitation . However, the forecast will very likely change ," the meteorology expert commented in the publication.

While heavy rains, possibly accompanied by hail and strong winds, are expected in areas such as Navarre and northern Aragon , the Canary Islands will enjoy low clouds in the northern part of the archipelago. However, the wind will blow steadily in the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with a gradual drop in temperatures in some areas.
